David Driskell: Mystery of the Masks

February 17 - March 26, 2022

For Images and More Information

David Driskell (1931 - 2020) created a body of work that unites a strong modernist impulse with his personal vision and memory. The works highlighted in this exhibition were heavily influenced by early trips taken to the African continent taken between 1969 and 1972. He returned with a deep appreciation and respect for African artistic traditions and iconography which he brought into his artwork.

Jane Wilson: Reflected Still Life

February 17 - March 26, 2022

For Images and More Information

Jane Wilson: Reflected Still Life brings together the artist’s still life paintings, particularly those of the late 1970s. As a painter whose focus for most of her career was on her external surroundings, especially early cityscapes and later landscapes, the introspective period beginning in the late 1960’s and continuing into the early 1980’s in which she was occupied with the still life was pivotal.

PBS News Hour: David Driskell

Artist David Driskell died last year of COVID-19 at age 88, but he's finally getting his due. For the first time, his paintings are the center of attention in a major way. Driskell was best known for his work as a historian and curator, raising the profile of African-American art and artists. Jeffrey Brown has this report for our arts and culture series, CANVAS.

Robert Kushner: I ❤ Matisse

May 6 - June 19, 2021

The exhibition is a cheeky yet serious exploration. Among the varied influences in Kushner’s oeuvre, from Japanese screen painting to American modernism, Henri Matisse’s influence has often been a continual through line as Kushner finds resonance in Matisse’s inclination toward design, love of pattern, beauty, expressive drawing, and vibrant color.

A catalogue with an essay, The Matisse Line, by Peter Eleey accompanies the exhibition.

Carrie Moyer: Analog Time

On View through May 1, 2021

Moyer’s use of abstraction continues to be a medium for sensations and this new body of work is a recollection of the last year spent largely in the twenty-five-block radius of her Brooklyn studio. Analog Time references a new appreciation for the intensity of daily life and a new sense of time that has fused mind and body, memory and imagination, micro and macro.
